Several letters in various dailies and news reports have highlighted the woes of Chorao residents and the others using Chorao-Ribandar ferry service to commute to Panjim. But there seems to be no solution to the woes of the citizens. It only seems to worsen with each passing day.
The situation during the morning peak hours, especially between 8am to 10am is maddening with long queues of office goers lined up near the Chorao ferry point. At times, we have to wait in this queue for as long as an hour, sometimes even more than that. The most irritating part is that some two-wheeler riders who avoid waiting in the queue end up pushing the barricades (meant for separating the two-wheelers and the four-wheelers on the other side) and block the movement of other two-wheeler riders.
This leads to heated arguments between those who wait patiently in the queue for the ferry and the law-breakers. Our endless attempts to reach our work destinations on time prove to be a failure on most occasions, as we are greeted by a long queue near the Chorao ferry point and we end up wasting our precious one hour or even more than that waiting patiently for our turn to take the ferry to cross the other end.
If the Chorao-Ribandar bridge is a distant dream, why don’t the authorities concerned ply additional ferries on this route especially during the peak hours between 8:30am to 10am in the mornings and 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the evenings? An immediate action needs to be taken on this to solve the unending woes of innocent citizens using this route on a regular basis.
