Churchill kicks off poll campaign from Fatorda

MARGAO: Trinamool Congress South Goa candidate, Churchill Alemao kicked off his election campaign for the South Goa constituency from Fatorda - the constituency represented by MLA Vijai Sardesai.

MARGAO: Trinamool Congress South Goa candidate, Churchill Alemao kicked off his election campaign for the South Goa constituency from Fatorda – the constituency represented by MLA Vijai Sardesai.
The meeting organised by Sardesai’s arch rival and Scheduled Tribe leader Piedade Norohna saw Alemao asserting that the third front headed by Mamta Banerjee will form the next government at the centre. “I want to assure my fellow Goans that Churchill will get a financial package of Rs 2000 crore from the centre for the six lakh mining dependent people when the Third front headed by Trinamool Congress assumes office at the centre”, he told the gathering amidst applause from the people.
He narrated the sequence of events that forced him to quit the Congress party and to embrace the Trinamool Congress, even he slammed Congress leaders responsible for his exit.
In her address, Piedade Norohna, a former Margao Municipal Chairperson, said that Churchill was responsible for grooming some of the leaders, who have now turned their back on him. Saying that Trinamool Congress has a big future in the next Assembly election, Norohna urged the people to rally behind Churchill at his juncture.
Zilla Panchayat Member Maria Miranda accused the government for suppressing the tribal people by denying their constitutional right to employment. Noted tiatrist Menino de Bandar and others also addressed the meeting.
