MARGAO, MAY 22
Musli Power Churchill Brothers, after surrendering their title to Dempo, will have to perform if they nurse any hopes of finishing second in ONGC I-League when they meet East Bengal at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Sunday.
Churchill Brothers (38 points) from 24 matches will have to wake up from their slumber and snatch three vital points, or else they will allow Pune FC to grab the runners-up spot.
Churchill Brothers manager Denzie Ferrao said there were some minor issues that bothered the team. Stopper back Rowilson Rodrigues, on double booking, will miss the match. Luckily Captain Odafa will be back after a one-match suspension.
“We have to go all out for a win,” said Denzie. “I hope the boys will go all out and give their best. I am confident they will come up trumps,” he added.
The three points are crucial as it will take Churchill’s tally to 41.
Belgian coach Philipe de Rider will be looking for his boys to turn a new leaf after their derby loss to Mohun Bagan.
East Bengal have struggled to maintain consistency. Injuries to key players, overburdened National players and a hectic schedule with local and international matches have taken a heavy toll.
East Bengal will miss the services of Ghanaians Yakubu Yusif and Abel Hammond due to injury and double card booking respectively. All eyes, however, will be on India captain Baichung Bhutia tomorrow.
