PONDA: With a motto of zero tolerance to corruption, the Ponda Citizen Committee (PCC) on Sunday announced its panel of 14 candidates who will contest the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) election on May 12.
PCC has fielded seven new faces, six former councillors and one candidate had contested elections earlier. In all, 60 candidates are in the fray.
According to reports, BJP and MGP had agreed to share seven seats each however PCC Chairman Dr Radhika Nayak said that PCC is not contesting the election on party lines.
“We have former councillors as well as youth in our panel and there is no identification based on party lines. The former councillors have experience and the young have energy and enthusiasm. With the combination of both, we aim to transform the city of Ponda,” said Dr Nayak.
Dr Nayak, a former councillor who is contesting from Ward 11, said PCC has lots of developmental plans for the city of Ponda. “A manifesto will be released within a couple of days. Zero tolerance to corruption and there will be transparent administration,” said Nayak.
The panel of candidates fielded by PCC was declared by Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar in the presence of senior BJP functionaries, Adv Narendra Savoikar and Adv Manohar Adpaikar.
Interestingly, Mamledar while declaring the candidates names had said MGP and BJP is jointly contesting the elections. “We have candidates supported by BJP, MGP and some independent candidates. We are contesting this election united and expect a clean sweep. I urge people of Ponda to support the candidates fielded by PCC.”
BJP functionary, Sunil Dessai, who is contesting from Ward 6, supported the claim made by Mamledar. “Like at the State level, here too at PMC, BJP-MGP will bring a change. I appeal to the people of Ponda city to vote and elect the candidates fielded by the PCC. Zero tolerance to corruption is our motto,” said Dessai.
