VASCO: The residents of Alto Dabolim have raised strong objections over the movement of heavy vehicles from the internal village road.
They said that though the Collector South Goa has notified the internal shortcut village road connecting St Jacinto Island to Vales junction as ‘No Entry’ for all commercial vehicles including taxis, however due to absence of traffic police at the site several heavy vehicles from under construction residential quarters of Airport Authority of India continue to use the road, posing high risk to commuters.
Irked residents even stopped few heavy vehicles that were seen illegally using the village road for transporting construction debris thereby also violating the traffic norms. The residents were also surprised to note that the heavy vehicle driver was driving without any cleaner.
Speaking to reporters some of the affected residents claimed that they were surprised to see that though the road has been notified as ‘No Entry,’ with all necessary sign-boards in place, still heavy vehicles continue to use this road without any fear of law.
Since the opening of road median at Vales junction has been closed down these heavy vehicles while coming onto the NH17 B road block the traffic. “Surprisingly when we stopped a heavy vehicle truck driver was not carrying his license and there was no sign of cleaner in the vehicle. We demand that the traffic police should take a note of the violations and should book the culprits involved, failing which we will be compelled to launch agitation,” a resident from Alto Dabolim Simon Pereira aired his displeasure.
