MARGAO: The Chinchinim Citizens Forum (CCF) has complained of footpath blocking by the migrants and other vendors in the market and public areas and sought an immediate action from the village panchayat.
The CCF pointed out the irregularities causing innumerable problems to senior citizens and villagers. The forum pointed out that the entire open space reserved for the public in the market area at the side of the road is fully occupied by the migrants, who openly carry out their trades with no one questioning them, where they sell their wares, fruits and vegetables alike.
The forum said that this illegal occupation of free access for the easy movement of the villagers goes against the very spirit of the High Court order which has restrained the authorities concerned to block/close such open spaces kept for the use of the pedestrians.
It may be recalled that an accident at Bandfoll near St Sebastian Chapel, few days ago lead to the tragic death of a school student whilst crossing the road on his scooter. A car moving at a high speed dashed against his scooter and fled away, leaving the youngster to die a tragic death on the road.
The forum said that the accident occurred mainly for two reasons, due to absence of a speed breaker, which has given complete freedom for car drivers and bike riders to move at a high speed, and the view is blocked by a construction site for storing, manufacturing, selling tiles and other items.
The areas along the Bandfoll Road leading to the Chinchinim market are full of migrants selling tender coconuts and other items which are responsible for causing a road blockade.
The panchayat has been requested to look into the matter on urgent basis and get rid of the unauthorised people from carrying out their trade by issuing notices to them within a period of 15 days.
The forum has warned that if the panchayat fails to act on their complaint then they shall be forced to bring the villagers on the road demanding justice for redressal of grievances.
