MARGAO: The newly erected traffic signals at the Old Market circle have irked regular motorists who have demanded that the signals be properly synchronized and suggested that the period be reduced for lanes that do not have much traffic and increased for lanes with heavy traffic.
Advocate JM Vivek Gomes, in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Collector South and Superintendent of Police Traffic, pointed out that it took him 20 minutes to travel from Abade Faria Road to the Collectorate building on Thursday.
He also pointed out that after the 10 vehicles in queue on the lane coming from Ponda to Margao had passed the circle, the others had to wait for the traffic signal to change to move ahead. Instead of this he suggested if the signals were managed manually, whenever there is no traffic on a lane extra time could be given for the vehicles on the other lane to cross over.
Raymond Peroz, who works at Verna, had a similar experience and pointed out that the traffic coming from Margao to KTC had queued up to the Holy Spirit school on Thursday thereby causing many of the office goers reach their office late.
“It would be better if more time is given for vehicles plying on Margao to KTC bus stand and less time is given for the lanes where there is less traffic like that to Colva or Ravindra Bhavan,” he said.
