PERNEM: Constant power failures in several parts of Pernem Taluka are haunting people day and night for the last two months. Morjim being one of the tourist destination, the locals for the last 15 days are complaining of regular power cuts especially during the night.
Similar situation is in Corgao and Torxem, where for the last two months power is being disconnected during any hour of the day. However, even after making several complaints by the villagers, personal as well as by passing resolutions in the gram sabhas, the authorities are not ready to pay attention to this problem.
Total failure in completion of pre-monsoon works that supposed to be carried out by the Electricity Department, Torxem village is one of the best example since electricity wires are literally hanging and many electricity poles are about to break putting people’s life at risk.
Locals informed that many wires are passing through huge trees and whenever strong wind blows the hanging wires interact with each other further causing short circuits and power cuts.
Zilla Parishad member Ramesh Sawal said,” Pernem Electricity Department haven’t carried out any pre-monsoon works this year. No proper maintenance of transformers is done. The huge trees and branches which interrupt the wires are not chopped. The concerned incharge person have shown total irresponsibility towards his duties, wherein they don’t even supervise the work carried out nor keep an eye on the works done by the workers.
