Stray cattle tend to be a serious menace in the state of Goa. Not only in major cities and towns, but even in villages the menace has turned dangerous for the precious lives of innocent travellers and pedestrians proceeding along the road.
In Ponda the bovines occupy the area near High Mast at Tisk and also in the vicinity of Old bus-stand. They even occupy the pavements and reserved parking areas, thereby causing hardships to pedestrians and pillion riders/ motorists. The situation is no different in villages. At the Queula village (also in Ponda), stray cattle occupies the road near Two Pillars and also adjacent to Saraswati High School. Even at the Villages of Adpai and Durbhat, the menace has turned dangerous to public at large. It is pity that the village panchayats neglect installation of cattle pounds in their respective jurisdictions so as to accommodate impounded cattle.
The Directorate of Panchayats as a competent authority has not initiated any appropriate action against civic bodies that have failed to install cattle pounds in their respective jurisdictions.
I sincerely request this particular authority to issue a fresh circular to VP’s which have yet to install cattle pounds at their jurisdiction. Over the years many accidents have occurred due to existence of cattle over the road.
With a view to assure safety to one and all, let us hope that the Directorate of Panchayats would closely monitor the steps taken by the VP’s in this serious matter.
