Electricity in Keri, a part of Sattari taluka is the worst. For the last four years or so, people for the area are facing a massive headache due to the frequent power failures. According to locals, power is lost more than ifteen times a day creating havoc for people and negatively impacts their day to day activities. People decided to take matters into their own hands as they came out on to the roads and blocked trafic on the highway from Keri to Belgaum in a bid to resolve this issue. Electric lines from forest areas fail due to heavy winds and it becomes dificult to pin point the location of the issue. The department intends to shift this line to an alternate area and the proposal for this has already been sent to the government for approval. There are wires tangled at some locations and this can cause a lot of harm to locals. Vishnu Parodkar from Keri said that many times complaints have been raised to oficers but nothing concrete has come off them yet. “The government shouldn’t neglect power issue since it is a necessity of the people,” he said. Devendra Gawas, a youth from the area said that for the last three years, people from the area feel that they aren’t living in developed Goa. “All parties before elections assure us that this will be taken care of but once they come to power, nothing is done about it.”
