The issue regarding an exposed transformer near Fire Station at Varkhandem in Ponda was published in this column on May 27.
The situation turned dangerous for the precious lives of innocent pedestrians proceeding along this strategic route.
Taking a note of this serious matter, the Ponda Electricity Department initiated prompt favourable action in closing the door of the said transformer with the help of a wire. Hence a possible tragedy that would have occurred sooner or later has been avoided.
I am thankful to the Electricity Department for their positive action in this regard. Also thanks to the Herald team for highlighting it. In Ponda we come across exposed transformers at different locations from time to time. Let us hope that swift positive action would follow in such cases so that safety is assured for innocent pedestrians on a permanent basis.
Maintenance staff found overlooking such cases should be taken to task at once without any discrimination.
