On December 25, which was Christmas Day, I happened to have passed in the evening near the petrol pump, Caranzalem and was surprised to see a cow herder escorting his bulls and cows while riding a scooter behind them much to detriment of the tourists who had been using this footpath to stroll.
Earlier, these cow herders used to go on foot and then they used to go on a cycle, but now, they go on a scooter, faster and scaring the tourists who immediately abandoned the footpath fearing the bovines.
This is Christmas time and the footpath should be cleared for people to stroll freely. A short distance away opposite the Goa Science Centre, where the urinals are located, I saw a heap of burnt grass and dried casuarina leaves that was stacked near the urinals. I presume that some miscreants burnt the grass and dried casuarina leaves below the casuarina trees and then shifted burnt material near the urinals. It is to be cautioned that if these fires go out of control, a fire might consume the casuarina trees which will require firefighters to put off the blaze.
The concerned authorities have to ensure that such hindrances and hazards do not disrupt the Christmas vacations of the tourists and locals. With regular patrolling in the area, the police can prevent such occurrences.
