In the last few days, we noticed that a contractor (name unknown) was dumping mud in an open field, also known as ‘pond’. In the monsoon, this field is flooded with water. When we, the residents of Colmorod, Margao Municipality, ward no 16, questioned him about the dumping of this foul-smelling mud, he replied that he could dump the mud in any open area, and that he had informed the MLA.
Later, a resident phoned the MLA Digambar Kamat and informed him about the incident. Kamat said he was unaware of such practices.
We requested him to do something about it as the mud’s smell was unbearable, and he promised us he will take action as early as possible. We expected officials to inspect the area, but instead, a local – a close aid of the MLA – started to level the mud.
While his work went on, he told the locals that he was contesting for the municipal elections and requested them to vote for him.
This is a clear case of illegal land filling since this is not an open area, but a water body where rain accumulates. I suspect some big names are involved in it. I am very surprised that our councillor and her husband never raised or objected to this matter.
