As a citizen of the state, I wish to express my grave concern over the increase in the number of road accidents. There is perhaps no day when there are no road accidents. It is very disturbing to me as my own family members commute daily.
It is sad to see the reckless way in which many two-wheelers ride, most of them by minors, having no license. Some drive under the influence of alcohol. The bigger vehicles do not give a chance for the smaller ones to stand up to them. Overtaking with speed is the general trend followed today by most youngsters. Such riders should be dealt with strictly. The signboards along the roadsides are in a pathetic condition and most are faint. They need an immediate replacement. The tumblers too need to be well maintained to ensure safety to both pedestrians and vehicles. The pot holes or cattle too pose a major threat to people. It would be in the interest of every person in Goa to see that our traffic police are vigilant, ruthlessly punishing all wrong doers. The RTOs must be deputed to all roads near schools and colleges besides other places to ensure complete safety. Helmets and seat belts should be made compulsory. All law breakers should be issued heavy fines. I hope the concerned authorities will look into the matter and reduce the problem of accidents in our state.
