Residents are accustomed of dumping their household garbage along the roadside, inside the drains, nullahs and also in open areas at the jurisdiction of the village panchayat of Durbhat in Ponda. Such a practice has been causing unhygienic conditions to one and all.
The village panchayat of Durbhat as a competent authority has not yet dealt firmly with this important matter and scenes of scattered garbage have been noticed at various spots.
The Adpai and Durbhat jetties are no exception in this regard and the residents andshopkeepers dump their garbage along the road leading towards these two jetties.
There is the need to install dust bins at strategic spots for the benefit of local population.
Cash fines should be levied on persons dumping garbage here and there. Equally important is that the dumped garbage is collected on a regular basis.
This would indeed be a challenge for the acting Sarpanch at this village panchayat.
