It has become a recurring issue that four-wheelers and other vehicles are parked in areas designated as ‘No Parking’ zones, particularly during peak hours. This problem is most evident on the stretch near the Margao Police Station. On one side of the road, local cultivators toil hard and sell their fresh produce, vegetables, and fruits to earn their livelihoods. The opposite side has rightly been marked as a permanent ‘No Parking’ zone to prevent traffic congestion on this busy two-way road.
However, it is deeply concerning that law enforcement agencies themselves sometimes park vehicles in the prohibited zone during busy hours. Such behaviour undermines the effort to enforce discipline and creates a ripple effect where the public feels entitled to follow suit.
Adding to the chaos is the absence of a towing squad and traffic police enforcement in these crucial moments. While the public struggles with frequent and severe traffic congestion in the city, the lack of decisive action against errant parking aggravates their woes.
This situation demands immediate attention. The concerned authorities must step up their efforts to ensure the ‘No Parking’ zones are respected. Swift action should be taken against violators, including those within the system, to set an example for the public. Reinforcing traffic discipline is not just about enforcement; it is about restoring order and easing the strain on city residents.
