Margao residents have questioned how permanent structures are coming up in place of kiosks on government land at the eastern side of the approach road to the railway flyover bridge at Sirvodem, Margao.
It is to be noted that there have been complaints filed over the alleged misuse and alleged illegal construction on government land to the district collector, South Goa. The complainant referred to the piece of land acquired by the government for the purpose of road widening. The complainants have demanded that strong action be taken on this abuse and encroachment on government land, so as to remove and demolish the alleged illegal structures constructed by the allottees.
They have also submitted photos of the said alleged illegal structures and a copy of the order of allotment to the collector’s office.
“The said land is within the road widening area, however I am shocked to learn that your office (district collector) has allotted a portion of that land for erection of temporary kiosks. Here I wish to point out that instead of allotting spaces to land losers, under deserving people have been allotted for commercial use,” said Agostinho Gama from Sirvodem.
“Nevertheless I wish to bring to your (district collector) notice that even though the order of allotment states that temporary kiosks should be erected, the allotees have constructed permanent structures of laterite stones or cement concrete which is in total violation of the allotment order. Further the allottees have also failed to take prior permission from the local authorities or municipality,” added Agostinho.
