As usual the repairs and beautification of Panjim starts just a few days before the commencement of the international film festival and work is done even as IFFI is in process.
I have noticed that only the external roads and the areas surrounding the IFFI venue have been given a facelift, including the decoration of D B Marg. I want to ask the concerned authority why the similar exercise is not carried out on the internal roads of Panjim. Do the city officials not value the residents of Panjim at all?
Many internal roads, including the very busy junction at St Inez, are crying for immediate repair work to be undertaken. We hear about Panjim being made into a Smart City and crores of Rupees have been allocated for sprucing the city. But unfortunately on the ground reality is very different and contrasting.
The beautifully-constructed road adjacent to the Parade ground is always full of filth, which is compounded by the presence of the shanty dwellers, who have put up their tents. There is no action from the CCP and act as if they are powerless to evict them.
In spite of a specific request to CCP to clear grass and clean up this street (as shown in the picture) nothing has been done yet.
Through the columns of the Citizen Herald I also request that municipal sweepers are supervised properly so that we do not see garbage piles lying around.
