VASCO: The malfunctioning traffic signal at Verna-Titan Junction was jeopardising the traffic movement. The officials from Vasco Traffic Cell had informed that it was due to some technical errors and power cuts.
Recently, the hardship which was faced by thousands of commuters commuting through Verna Highway was highlighted in the Citizen Herald Page edition dated August 12, 2019. People were having no idea about the reason behind the non-functioning of traffic signal which is at the prime location. The impact of the news report was such that as soon as the issue of malfunctioning of traffic signal was highlighted on Herald, the technician had to promptly attend to the problem and repair it quickly.
During the interaction with Verna Police Station Police Inspector Sandesh Sawant, it came to light that the technician, who looks after the maintenance of the signals at Verna Titan Junction, had called him and had asked for help to provide a vehicle with police staff to control the traffic movement while he was undertaking the repair work on August 12, between 9.30 pm and 10 pm.
When contacted a regular commuter, as to know how he felt after the signal was repaired, Anirban said that it is really good to see that prompt action is being taken and the repair work was done quickly.
“This is how things should work. The repair work of the traffic signal will prevent chances of accidents and help in smooth movement of traffic at the Verna Titan Junction,” he added.
Another, girl named Latakshi Nagde, said that she passes through Verna Junction several times and for the past few days had seen the traffic signal malfunctioning.
“It is good that at last the authorities have taken cognizance of the issue and have acted swiftly. But I feel such vital infrastructure’s need to be maintained timely which most of the time the officials fail to do,” she opined.
