Be it anywhere in Goa, this sight is common. The Mapusa municipal market is no exception. Migrant children begging for alms sleep against the dirty pan stained wall in one of the side entrances behind the new market complex.
What’s more, vendors complain of collecting hafta but the municipal authority in return does nothing to keep the market clean and free of beggars, lamanis and migrant children harassing for alms. Hawkers squat anywhere convenient to them to sell their goods to earn for a living. This creates chaos and hampers easy movement of the people doing marketing. One wonders when the market will fall in place to make it ideal for use of public.
