MARGAO: Member of Parliament Narendra Sawaikar promised to fund three traffic signals in Navelim under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD), following a request by MLA Luizinho Faleiro.
While pointing out that the number of students in Navelim have increased to nearly 10,000, Luizinho stressed an urgent need to have traffic signals at Navelim Church and the Navelim junction for students’ safety. He appealed to Narendra Sawaikar to fund these two along with another traffic signal at the Rawanfond junction.
While pointing out that the subway at Navelim junction that was constructed under the MPLAD scheme by Eduardo Faleiro is not being used as it gets flooded, Luizinho requested Narendra to take up that work too under the MPLAD scheme.
Narendra in his speech said he would discuss the matter with the Collector and promised to take up the installation of traffic signals at the three junctions immediately. As for the repairs of the sub-way, the MP said he would have to study the proposal to see if it can be taken up under the scheme.
Earlier, both commissioned the 300 mm diameter 4,262 metre-long pipeline constructed to supply water from Zoriwaddo in Davorlim to Navelim Church. With the commissioning of this pipeline the water problems faced by people of Navelim, Telaulim, Nagmoddem, Sinquetim, and Dongorim will be addressed to some extent.
“This pipeline can take pressure of 6 kgs but our distributor network gives way when the pressure is 4 kgs, hence we shall be using reduced pressure right now,” Luizinho said, while asking the PWD officials to prepare estimates to replace the old pipes in the distributing network.
With nearly 70 per cent of the work on the Rs.4 crore project has been completed, people living in far flung areas like Dongorim and Sinquetim will get regular water supply now instead of the erratic supply they used to get earlier. Besides, they will have good pressure instead of the weak supply earlier.
As part of the second phase, a 300 mm diameter pipeline of 1,200 metres would be laid in Davorlim and Rumdamol panchayat areas, including the housing board colonies to address the water problem faced by the people there.
