MAPUSA: The Goa Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) has called for monitoring of pay parking facilities made available by the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) at Mapusa market and taxi stand since it has been receiving oral and written complaints about the overcharging and rude behavior of the pay parking attendants with the locals and tourists.
In a letter to MMC Chief Officer Sitaram Sawal, the GOACAN stated that the steps taken by the MMC to provide a facility of pay parking at both these locations is correct as it is beneficial to the regular consumers visiting the market and tourists visiting the Mapusa town and it generates revenue for the municipal council.

“However, it is important that a monitoring mechanism is put in place so that if there are any grievances from the users of the facility or any improvements to be made then this would be helpful to the MMC,” the letter stated.
Further, the GOACAN mentioned as of now, there is an urgent need for proper display boards to be installed so that the consumers (two and four wheelers), who use the facility know the pay parking rates, the timings as well as the contact mobile number and email ID to give complaints to the MMC. The present boards installed at the market and taxi stand do not have the full information and are not in good condition.
The GOACAN has also suggested that the task of monitoring the pay parking facility may be given to the Road Safety and Traffic Management Committee (RSTMC) so that it will help the MMC in its future plans for the rest of Mapusa town.
