SANGUEM: The villagers of Netravali are literally sore over the almost non-existent mobile and internet connectivity in the village. Thanks to the lone BSNL mobile service provider in the village, who despite having monopoly has failed to provide the basic facilities to the villagers.
Ever since the commencement of online classes and work from home calls given by multinational companies there has been an outcry in the village over dismal network connectivity and with the lone service provider showing lackadaisical attitude towards the villagers complaints.
With the matter going almost out of hands and with network connectivity being a must, the villagers led by Amit Naik even made several visits to the BSNL central office at Panjim but to no avail.
Assurances given by the authorities last year to improve the services at Netravali Telephone Exchange however failed to materialise even as of date making the villagers continue to suffer both in terms of mobile and internet connectivity.
“The situation in the village is pathetic as far as BSNL services are concerned,” informed Naik to Herald.
Whenever there is a power failure in the village, the BSNL services also disappear as the generators installed at the Netravali Telephone Exchange are allegedly in non-working condition resulting in no back up facility at the Exchange.
Naik said that over the last few days and since the Cyclone Tauktae had lashed Goa, the telephone services at Netravali village have remained dead. The Exchange has remained closed and efforts to contact the officers over the connectivity problems faced by the villagers have failed, added Naik.
The banking and other services in the village, which depend on internet connectivity, have suffered to a great extent on account of the negligence attitude of the BSNL authorities.
The villagers are made to spend several hours and sometimes days together to get their work done in the village on account of poor network facility.
The BSNL Exchange at Netravali needs a complete haul to improve its services in the village. However, with BSNL enjoying monopoly in the village, it seems to be hardly bothered of the problems faced by the villagers.
