Local political interests are willing to oblige with such request and recommend it. Goa is said to be the best place for world obstacle race.
Speed breakers built on roads are of different types, hump type, rumblers type, zebra lines also serve as limited purpose. The old type of speed breakers are still in existence. The purpose is noble to slow down traffic for the safety of commuters, but it depends on riders willing to abide by the measure.
In fact the riders treat such preventive and safety aspects with impunity. Any accident, damage to people in its vicinity should not be allowed to be compromised and the offence should not be legally negotiable and fines imposed as a deterrent. More than often the speed breakers are not maintained, with painting, sign boards on either side and as such cause accidents due to negligence. In the absence of street lights they should be painted with florescent paint.
It is humorously advanced that the best speed breakers are pot holes and stray cattle, for the riders are more cautious and act as serious deterrents. The hordes of cattle abutting on NH17 at Dandeavado, Chinchinim have fortunately resulted in any fatal accidents as the result.
Recently there was a report about the stray cattle menace in Ponda where the shopkeepers had to not only shoo the stray cattle away but also shield their goods to prevent these animals from consuming them. Ironically the stray cattle have become good speed breakers, specially on the highways. But one has to be very careful during night time. In the absence of streets lights, one can find a stumbling block right in the middle of the road in the form of a buffalo whose colour matches the tar on the road and is very difficult to spot them.
