Our Island of Chorao is not without its share of cattle woes. It is not unusual for us to encounter a herd of 60 odd cattle let loose on the roads in the day as well as in the nights. These cattle occupy the full width of the road making roads hazardous for motorists and two-wheeler riders. Senior citizens and school children find it extremely difficult to walk on the roads.
The cattle are let loose and so they enter the fields and destroy crops especially during this paddy growing season. The owners take no responsibility for this and are very arrogant when we complain to them. The village authorities too turn a deaf ear to these complaints. Strays are here to stay as everyone adopts a ‘don’t care attitude’ and how safe our roads are is anybody’s guess.
