Nursing Institute at Bambolim neglected

My friend’s sons and daughters are studying at the Institute of Nursing Education at Bambolim, Goa. The parents were beaming with pride as their wards have chosen a noble profession but now they are wondering whether their pride is lost.
One look at the Institute of Nursing in Bambolim will tell you that sadly the Government itself lacks respect for the Nursing profession and the girl students studying there.
It’s a sorry tale of crumbling infrastructure and lack of academic compliances as pointed out by the Nursing Council of India.
I have visited quite a few nursing colleges in the neighbouring States with my friends for seeking admissions in a Nursing. I now realise that not only does the institute of Nursing Education in Bambolim fall short in catching up with the facilities provided by other Institutions but it is probably the only nursing college in country which downgrades itself by calling it an Institution and not a College.
This Golden jubilee Institution lacks basic facilities such as toilets and water. There are just six toilets for 400 students; predominately girl students, which are unusable most of the time due to lack of water as water is seldom supplied through water tankers. Why this Institution does not have water connection is beyond my comprehension.
This Institution has recently doubled its seats to 100 but has made no provision for hostel facilities, bigger classrooms, etc. The class rooms are crammed with insufficient lighting, ventilation and fans, and there is also no sound system in the classes that cater to 100 students which in most instances renders the lectures inaudible.
On the academic front the Institute of Nursing in Bambolim does not adhere to the norms laid down by the Indian Nursing Council. It is learnt that these norms are flaunted year on year. For instance the Institution do not have the required number of faculty to impart education to the budding nurses and that most of the faculty at the Institution are working there as staff nurses which is in gross violation of the prescribed norms.
Health Minister, the Institute of Nursing cries out for your attention. Your vision of quality health care for Goans starts here at the nurseries of health care professionals. I pray that you are able to replicate exemplary administrative skill displayed by you in your previous tenure as Health Minister. We have full faith in you.
