PONDA: Ponda locals have pleaded with the government to repair the roads before Ganesh Chaturthi. It is a horrifying experience to travel through the potholes ridden roads.
A local Vishal Fadte said, “At least during Chaturthi, the government should repair the roads as thousands of people visit town for Matoli Bazaar, shopping various goods. There are chances of injuries, given the worst condition of roads, which are full of potholes.”
“Many commuters especially bike riders have received fractures after travelling on the potholes ridden roads in Ponda. The worst situation is when the potholes are filled with rain water, as it becomes difficult to know the depth of the potholes which has led to several accidents to bike riders,” Fadte said.
He said, “So many people are complaining about back pain due to riding on the potholes ridden roads in the town. Except Khadpaband road, other roads in town are not hot-mixed since past four years on account of road digging work for 15 MLD STP which is coming up at Kavlem.”
Another local, Avinash Ramnathkar said, “The long pending work on sewerage is still progressing at Daag Ponda on account of which the road is almost damaged at this stretch.”
As just few days are left, people have started visiting Ponda market for shopping, while on other hand despite traffic congestion is witnessed, the Traffic Police are seen busy in issuing challans then managing traffic and providing parking space. Haphazard parking is noticed everywhere.
The locals also demanded that more traffic police be deployed for smooth flow of traffic. Parking by the roadside is also creating a nuisance to the people and commuters.
