Many thanks for publishing the photo and letter about the poor management of garbage in Calangute. Surprisingly, the same evening authorities were on site to clean the area and we are really grateful to them.
However, things are back to normal within a couple of days!
The question that begs an answer is although we pay a garbage collection tax in addition to house tax, why is the garbage not being collected from households? If it was collected meticulously, there will be no garbage thrown on the roadside for the cows and dogs to scatter around.
Cleaning up is addressing the effect but it is not addressing the cause. I humbly request the authorities to enforce collection of garbage door to door and penalize those that dump garbage on the road side.
