Stagnant Water Near Ferry Point Raises Health Concerns for Commuters and Shopkeepers

Citizen Stephen Dias Dona Paula

On the morning of January 15, when I had gone to purchase my newspapers, I was startled to see accumulated water in the drain and on the road which the local businessman from the area said emanated from a newly constructed drainage and didn’t have an outlet into the river Mandovi. The stagnated water had a depth of about three inches and were affecting the commuters of the ferryboat across the Mandovi who were alighting.

It is feared that the accumulated water if stagnant for a long time will become a breeding ground for mosquito larvae which would sustain the spread of malaria and dengue causing a health hazard to the shopkeepers of the locality. The Corporation of the City of Panaji should immediately drain out the water that is accumulated in the area which is very near to the Azad Maidan.
