In Benaulim and other coastal villages of Salcete the monsoons bring a special kind of hell for pedestrians. Thorny ground hugging shrubs grow with wild abandon by the roadside and cover parts of the road which the pedestrians use as there are no separate pavements.
The spread of the shrubs not only prick walkers but also force them to use the tarred surface beyond the white demarcation lines, putting themselves at great risk against oncoming high speed traffic. I request the panchayat authorities to deploy personnel to trim the growth atleast once every week.
