When authors like Chetan Bhagat, Durjoy Dutta, Preethi Shenoy, Savi Sharma etc. announce the place and date of the launch of their recent book. I always wonder why they never host their book launch in Goa. Is it because we do not have a good reader base? Or is it because we lack libraries or bookstores? Goa definitely has number of bookstores and reader base. But our libraries need lot of transformation so as to invite prominent authors and poets to our state. By transformation I mean upgrading the library with more facilities to get in youth too to serious reading and discussion. The colleges are doing their best to provoke the students to write and express. But it is high time that the government too turns its attention towards this cause. One of the ways we could make the libraries more vibrant is by organizing Poetry, short story writing competitions for young writers. Hosting book releases of prominent authors. Conducting writing and reading workshops. Having reading sessions on a regular basis. Perhaps this would invite the youth to libraries and make them get acquainted with books, who could be reliable friends rather than being deviants and a burden to the society.
