The death of a two-wheeler rider witnessed recently in Vasco, after an old Ashoka tree along the Swatantra Path came crashing down, took place as a result of the rider’s neck getting entangled in the wires from an electric pole which was brought down by the tree.
It is observed that at every concrete electric pole in the city there is a maze of wires coming from every direction (as seen in the photo). These wires which carry power supply can be very dangerous to the citizens as it can break and fall onto the ground due to the strong winds. The Swatantra Path gets crowded during the Saptah Festival as also during the Carnival, Shigmo and Narkasur parade. Any accident, wherein the concrete electricity poles come crashing down can cause damage to life and property.
It seems absolutely necessary to lay underground electricity cables in the city in order to prevent any untoward incidents. Underground cabling will also eliminate the power outage which the citizens of Vasco have to face on a regular basis during the monsoon season.
