The slogan “Today’s Pain is Tomorrow’s Gain” is put up by the bridge builder Dilipcon. This slogan makes our PWD become too lackadaisical in carrying out their duties towards the Goenkar consumer. This was seen during the construction of the newly completed Atal Sethu the potholed road used by commuters was left unattended for years. This, despite of many photos flashing on newspapers, the engineers did not bother to attend.
After inauguration of the bridge, the service road was asphalted and now the traffic moves freely without bumps but the pain these commuters went through should be a reminder for those people then incharge.
The latest is the bus-shed near the newly ongoing flyover work at Green Park Guirim–Ucassaim Junction. It remains uprooted and left there while the poor students, senior citizens and women commuters are left standing for the bus with umbrellas to travel to Panjim in monsoon.
The authorities are quick to remove the bus shed but illegal structures are left till the court gives direction for its removal but for the common man “Niz Goenkar” is made to bear the pain for how long? Will the PWD Minister and local MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar see that the bus shed is fitted for the Goenkar rather than make them suffer for such callousness attitude of these contractors and PWD engineers?
