Waiting for another tragedy at Borda

As I walked by the Pilar Music School, Borda, two kids started throwing stones at a lizard in the gutter beside the school. A lady in one of the nearby houses asked them to stop as they could damage a rusty water pipeline in the gutter.

I was stunned; there really was a corroded water supply line lying in the open gutter. I told the lady to complain to the PWD urgently as the water would be contaminated if the pipe broke.
The lady said she had already done that, and had even requested road-cutting to safeguard the water supply of the people who depended on pipe water.
The PWD, however, asked her to cut the road at her own cost. They added that she need not depend on the PWD’s supply of water and asked her to get her own well water.
The PWD’s attitude is shameful and deplorable. It should relocate the pipeline at safer place immediately to avoid water contamination similar to what happened in Margao recently. The ward councilor/MLA should also take cognizance of the situation.
