PANJIM: In a complaint filed before Cyber Crime Cell of Goa Police, the Sharada Mandir School, Miramar, Panjim has sought criminal prosecution of its students, involved in misusing social media platform to demean teachers, who conduct online classes.
In a circular issued to parents and students, Administrator Oscar Gonsalves and Principal Sharmila Umesh said in light of the demoralising and disheartened behaviour of the students, the online recording session for all classes scheduled for Thursday stands suspended. The recorded session of the classes will be given to only those students who apply in writing for the same.

“Few students have shown disrespect by using the social media platform like Instagram in a demeaning manner. Teachers’ faces have been clicked during the Zoom Classes as well as from the Recorded Session and morphed into unacceptable and demeaning images and uploaded on Instagram,” the circular mentioned.
“Also, during the live classes, students have been mutilating the power point presentations and passing disrespectful comments. Teachers are very demoralised and disheartened at this behavior of the students,” it added.
“We have lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Branch as this behavior is unacceptable and liable for criminal prosecution,” it added further.
The school authority has said they will be making a decision on future course of action as some students have proved that they are not in sync with the school’s vision of a holistic education.
They have also advised parents to monitor their children’s online activities and study sessions.
The authorities said due to the COVID-19 pandemic, for safety of students, they were not allowed within the portals of the school and since education cannot take a backseat, the management arranged online teaching session for all classes at their own cost.
“This method of teaching is new for all teachers and the preparations of the lessons is quite tedious and strenuous for them, but they took up the challenge because uppermost in their mind was the future of their students,” the school said.
The Cyber Crime Cell has however not received physical complaint copy from the complainant, instead it has been sent through online portal.
“We have not received the complaint yet. Tomorrow (Thursday) we will approach them for further action,” said Crime Branch SP Pankaj Kumar Singh.
