MARGAO: In view of the grievances faced by the villagers of Benaulim who haven’t received their rations for the last two months, an
inspection was held by officials from the Department of Civil Supply on Monday at the local fair price shop.

The locals had also gathered in large numbers in front of the shop during the inspection.
Officials from the Department of Civil Supply and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas spoke to the owner of the fair price shop to discuss the situation.
The details of the amount of ration supplied and the type of ration items that had not been supplied to the villagers, were also conveyed to the fair price shop owner.
The shop owner has been given time till Tuesday to place the orders with the Department of supplies.
However, given that in order to meet the requirements of the villagers, the fair price shop owner would have to purchase 20,000 kg of ration and there were several technical difficulties in completing this task in one day.
While the supplies official suggested certain alternative measures that the shop owner could take on the condition that certain assurances are given to the department, the shop owner appeared to be hesitant in doing so
and expressed his inability to comply with the conditions.
The villagers were quick to deny his statement that a certain amount of ration had been provided in the previous month.
At the end, stop gap measures were suggested to ensure that the villagers get some quantity of the ration due to them, but it was made clear that there should be proper billing and markings done so that there is no problem in collecting their remaining supplies later on.
