Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Monday dismissed a petition seeking the formation of a committee to enforce judicial reforms, including resolving every case within a year. The CJI called the plea “publicity-seeking” and urged the petitioner to submit suggestions in writing instead.
Addressing the idea of faster judgments, he asked, “You want every court to deliver within a year? How many courts do you need?” He added that setting up additional courts is not simple. The Chief Justice emphasised that petitions should not be filed merely for media attention and encouraged submitting letters with proposals for reforms.
The Supreme Court clarified that administrative suggestions are welcome but reiterated that reforms require proper channels, not courtroom publicity stunts. The petitioner may still write to the CJI with ideas for consideration.
