MARGAO: Tension rent the air at Margao’s old fish market area on Saturday when two groups clashed leading to injuries to one member each of both the factions.
The incident is reported to have taken place at 3.30 pm on Saturday when four youth were having tea outside a readymade garments shop behind the MMC building belonging to one Shivraj Kumar.
What seems to have triggered the clash was a misunderstanding between four youth – Anwar Sayad, Assim Sayad, Assim Teli and Ravi Patel, all tailors by profession working at a shop near the MMC building – and Shivraj.
Heated arguments were witnessed before the violent clash between the four youth and Shivraj, who was joined by his brother Suresh Kumar Acharya and nephew Manish Kumar Acharya.
Police said dangerous weapons were used during the fight in which Shivraj and Anwar were left with fractured hands.
Things went out of hand when a crowd threatened to set the readymade garments shop on fire.
Margao PSI Ajit Umarye said cross complaints have been filed by both the groups.
Upon a complaint by Shivraj, police registered offence of rioting and causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons against the four youth who were arrested.
Based on a cross complaint filed by Anwar from the other group, the police  booked shop owner Shivraj, his brother and nephew under 326 of IPC.
