MARGAO: Outbursts by certain legislators against the Church circular seems to have not gone down well with the Clergy, with priests in many parishes questioning the propriety of the elected representatives, especially those belonging to the Catholic religion, in targeting the Church Circular.
While the ongoing prayer service to enlighten the voters to cast their vote judiciously in favour of candidates who would not create hurdles in the propagation of Christian religion and values continues in the parishes, many priests in their sermons have expressed their resentment over the way the MLAs targeted the clergy and the Church over the circular.
At one parish in Salcete, a Priest expressed surprise that MLAs belonging to the Christian religion are publicly questioning the propriety of the Church in issuing the circular. “It is shocking that our own people are involved in attacking the Church circular. We have not even heard this criticism from MLAs belonging to other religions”, remarked a priest in his eucharistic celebration.
Sources said the ongoing prayer service taking place in all the parishes to enlighten the voters will continue till April 12 – the day of the Lok Sabha poll. Prayers are offered to enlighten the voters to come and vote for candidates who believe in truth and justice and who will not put hurdles in the practice and preaching of Christian religion.
“During these elections, may God bless all the people of our country and help us to vote for a truly secular India and to protect, preserve and promote our rich Constitution. May God save our dear India from all injustices, corruption, communalism and persecutions to the minorities”, remarked Fr Joseph de Silva, Parish Priest of Colva. God loves all of us. We should also love and respect all, hate no one and be unjust to none”, he added.
