PANJIM: Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Pratapsing Rane Tuesday said that it was up to the Government of the day to take a decision on Mopa, saying it is not immediate while pushing for Dabolim to be utilized to its fullest.
Rane was speaking to media after the CLP meeting held ahead of the visit of the AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh to the state Wednesday. He was also for people’s involvement in the decision-making process.
Sources also said that CLP meeting decided that all the Congress MLAs would go to welcome Singh to Goa and reiterate to him that they would be willing to work together for the party’s success.
In a first of its kind united rapid fire against the government, the MLAs highlighted a number of governance issues which according to them depicted failure of the government. The MLAs came down heavily on the extended school timings, calling on the government to take the parents into confidence before pushing through any decision.
The law and order situation in the state also came in for censure from the CLP which slammed the government’s failure to contain the lawlessness in the state alleging that the spate of crime against women still continues unabated. The meeting also condemned government’s bias in doling out financial benefits under its several schemes by misusing government servants.
“Security to women is still a grave concern. An attempted sexual assault at Tivim is one such example. The girl bravely thwarted the attempt but it raises a question whether girls and women are still safe,” CLP spokesman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco told Herald post CLP meeting. The attack on Colva police station by an angry mob to protest the kidnap of a minor girl by some north Indian tourists, increasing dacoits and other crime incidents were also discussed at length.
The government was heavily criticized for failing to curb the menace.
The CLP leaders, during the meeting, questioned the wisdom of the government for introducing and implementing various schemes at the time when the state is reeling under financial crisis.
and several thousands are unemployed after the mining closure.
Besides, irregular distribution of financial packages under the state schemes was also discussed. “Congress leaders are not given the forms of the schemes to distribute to their constituents. Monies are being sanctioned to BJP support bases…” Reginaldo said as he revealed a few issues discussed during the meeting.
“There is no attention paid to the state. No attention is being paid to the finances,” he added.
