CM asks depts to finish pre-monsoon works on priority

PANJIM: With less than a fortnight to go for monsoon arrival, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday directed the concerned government authorities to take up pre-monsoon works on priority and at the same time initiate steps to avoid flooding of low lying areas during rainy season.

Chief Minister who chaired the State Disaster Management Authority meeting convened to review monsoon preparedness at Conference Hall, Secretariat, Porvorim, further, directed the authorities to take up the work of pruning of dangerous trees on priority basis before the onset of monsoon.

The Chief Minister also instructed the authorities of DMA, Panchayats and WRD to undertake the work of desilting of drains, gutters and nullahs. 

Similarly, precautionary measures need to be taken for vector borne diseases by Directorate of Health Services, he said. Issues pertaining to activities to be carried out by PWD, Electricity, GSIDC, Fire and Emergency Services and other concern departments were discussed in the meeting.

Secretary Revenue Sanjay Kumar, IAS, briefed about the preparedness of monsoon 2020 and other issues related to Disaster Management in the State.

The meeting was attended by Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, IAS; Secretaries to the Government, Collectors of South and North Goa, Heads of Departments and Senior Officers of the State Disaster Management Authorities.
