CM assures shack owners to resolve their issues

MAPUSA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday resolved issues of shack owners and assured them that the government will  notify the Goa State Shack Policy 2023-26 soon.

During the meeting on the sidelines of an event at Mapusa, the Chief Minister assured shack operators to increase the number of shacks from three to eight at Ozrant-Anjuna as demanded by them. With this, the number of shacks will be increased from 359 to 364, the same number which was permitted by the department of Tourism, last year.

The Chief Minister said that the officials will recheck and relocate the identification of beach stretches particularly at Calangute and Candolim for erection of temporary shacks before notifying the modified policy.

After the meeting, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Shack Owners Welfare Society (SoWS) president Cruz Cardozo thanked the Chief Minister for resolving their demands. Cardozo also appealed to the government to start allotting beach shacks for the current tourist season.
