PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday appealed to Goan youth to join the Indian Air Force and serve the country. He, however, suggested that they join as musician for which Goans are ‘better suited’.
The Indian Air Force will conduct a recruitment drive in the State on June 3 and June 6, at Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Stadium.
Parsekar said the recruitment drive on June 3 would be for musicians and while on June 6 it will be for clerical and other posts.
“The musicians post is better suited for Goans. Also, the minimum qualification for the post is only tenth standard,” he said adding, “There are 60 posts for musicians”.
Wing Commander Maheshwar Singh, who was present at the media briefing, also urged Goan youth to avail of the opportunity. He said that besides musicians, there are about 5000 different clerical and assistant’s post.
Parsekar also said few Goans join the defence forces. “Not many Goans join Defence but I would say that we have our own Manohar Parrikar as Defence Minister,” Parsekar said.
Speaking on efforts made to encourage youth to join the Defence forces, Parsekar said, “We have already held meetings with Director of Education, Director of Higher Education, District Collectors and other officials informing them about the drive and encourage youth to join the same.”
The chief minister said that two months ago the State had successfully hosted the Defence Expo in the State. “Lot of college students had shown keen interest in the expo and I think this recruitment rally is an opportunity for them to serve the nation. This is an attempt to provide Goan youth another employment avenue. The Defence sector was never an attractive career option for Goan youth due to some misconceptions,” the chief minister said.
The Chief Minister said the State government is already giving incentive for the youths joining armed forces. “We give incentives of Rs 25,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 75,000 in three stages,” he said.
