CURCHOREM: “Mhadei River is like my mother and the State is ready to do anything for it,” Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said and expressed confidence that Goa would win the case in the Supreme Court.
He was speaking during BJP workers meeting held at Sanvordem on Monday in the presence of PWD Minister Dipak Pawaskar, former MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, former MP Narendra Sawaiker, Sanvordem Sarpanch Sandip Pawaskar, ZP member and BJP candidate Suvarna Tendulkar.
Questioning the concerns of some opposition leaders for Mhadei, he asked, “What they have done when they were in power.”
Hitting out former Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, Sawant asked, “Why he was quite when the nullha was constructed from Kankunbi to Malaprabha. The construction of nullha was completed during his (Kamat’s) tenure as chief minister between 2007 and 2012 and the water was diverted then and not now.”
On the mining issue, he said that he understands the sentiments of the mining dependents as, like Sanvordem, 90 percent of the people from his constituency too are dependent on mining.
“More than 50 percent issue of mining is solved and I have confidence that on coming April 21 the Supreme Court judgement would be in our favour and soon mining would be re-started,” Sawant said.
“We are taking loan for the development of the state and repaying it within a year’s time as the income of the State has dropped to some extent,” Sawant said and criticised the Opposition, when they were in power they, for “taking loans even when the State was receiving more than sufficient income.”
Appealing to people to vote for BJP candidates for ZP election, he assured to double the ZP fund to undertake the developmental activities.
“Benefits of the social schemes of the government should reach the widows, elderly and disabled; and it can reach through local panchayat and ZP members,” Sawant said.
