PANJIM: The State government will carry out a special recruitment drive to fill the backlog vacancies of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and OBCs, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, while placing the blame squarely at the doorstep of the previous Congress government for the backlog.
Parrikar, while targeting the erstwhile Congress government, alleged that the STs/SCs vacancies were filled with general category candidates, leaving no scope to clear the backlog. He said that government will have to wait till vacancies are created to clear the backlog for the reserved categories.
Furious over Congress allegations that even after one year BJP government failed to clear the backlog of vacancies, Chief Minister said ‘if there will be no hue and cry, I am ready to sack all those general category workers currently working on ST/SC reservations’.
“Let Opposition tell me to take action….I will dismiss them all,” he said, replying to the allegation by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco during Question Hour.
According to the tabled reply to MLA Vijai Sardesai’s question, there is a backlog of 2200 jobs in various departments.
Ramesh Tawadkar said that till date govt has advertised 561 jobs and filled 131 vacancies. He said that efforts are on to clear the backlog at the earliest. He said that the post-based rosters are not maintained by the department.
It may be recalled that the Tribes of Goa, an umbrella organization of Scheduled Tribes, has strongly demanded that the government should direct all its departments to fill the vacant posts as per directions of the Supreme Court in the R K Sabarwal case and not to fill posts with general category candidates if ST candidates are not available.
