PANJIM: Ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha polls and the by-polls to three Assembly constituencies, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant held a review meeting with all the top officials of the Goa Police.
Sources informed that the meeting chaired by the Sawant was attended by DGP Pranab Nanda, IGP Jaspal Singh, DIG Rajesh Kumar, DIG Parmaditya, SP North Chandan Choudhary, SP South Arvind Gauns, SP ACB Utkrisht Prasuna, SP Crime Pankaj Singh, SP Security Bosco George, SP HQ Shekhar Prabhudesai and SP Coastal Security Dinraj Govekar.
During the review meeting all aspects with regards to law and order situation in the State were discussed for evaluating the best approaches to ensure police services meet local needs and priorities, sources further informed.
Sawant laid special emphasis on eliminating drug peddling. Other aspects such as security, crime and traffic police welfare were also discussed, sources added.
Ahead of the elections scheduled on April 23, a host of high profile politicians are expected to address rallies in Goa including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, etc.
Goa Police has been vigilant on the use of liquor, drugs and money laundering during the election time and seized sizeable amounts during raids carried out in the last more than a month.
In March, the Central Intelligence Bureau had sounded a high alert in major cities in the country including Goa following an intercepted conversation of the ISIS and Al-Qaeda to attack Israelis in India.
