Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar expressing his displeasure over the manner the police had handled the accident case in which a drunk driver driving on the wrong side of the road had seriously injured two youth, has directed the police to submit a detailed report to him.
“The recent Campal accident is an eye-opener. Police have registered it as a traffic accident which I don’t agree with. I have sought a detail investigation report from police,” the chief minister told the House on a question raised by independent legislator Naresh Sawal and others who expressed their concern over the increasing number of accidents, especially at night.

Citing example of the infamous drunk driving accident involving Shobhika Gaur, the chief minister said such cases will continue if there is no restriction imposed. “In 2009 or 2010 year, the past government had granted 24-hour licence which was later reduced till 5 am. I brought down to 4 am, with certain restrictions. I am with the women’s organization against this time as well. My opinion is also not to grant licence till 4 am,” he said, adding, “otherwise there would be accidents and vehicles will hit dividers. There are many poles damaged because of drunk driving. There was a case in Panjim recently.”
