PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Saturday said that he does not see a role for himself in national politics during the forthcoming lok sabha elections and reiterated that he is not ready to continue even in State politics for more than five years from now.
“I have no role to play in national politics. I have told you in the past that I am not ready to continue even in the state politics for more than five years from now,” Parrikar told reporters on the sidelines of national executive meeting, which is underway in Goa from Saturday.
The Chief Minister said that it is too early for him to say whether he would be campaigning for Lok Sabha polls. “I have made it clear that national politics is not for me,” he added.
Parrikar, while campaigning for State Assembly elections last year, had announced that he would not be in politics after five years.
Throwing his weight on the side of one BJP camp, Parrikar openly expressed his support to Narendra Modi praising his ‘administrative capabilities’ and ‘popularity’ and said that Modi needs to be projected as BJP’s `face’ for the next general elections.
Arguing that projecting Modi would give a tremendous boost to the electoral prospects of the party, he said, “Projecting Modi should be done at least six months ahead of the Lok Sabha polls which are expected around May next year to give clarity to the people.”
Parrikar said that though he has got clear signal about public opinion in favour of Modi because he is in constant touch with the common people, the decision has to be taken by the party’s top leadership and he will respect that even if his view is not accepted.
