PANJIM: Days after conceding that community transmission has started in Goa, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday took a U-turn saying there is no community transmission as the “virus is not in the air”.

Addressing the media post the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said that though he had admitted that community transmission had begun, he studied the issue further. “I realised that the roots of all the positive cases in Goa are connected, which means there is no community transmission, the virus is not in the air,” he said.

Sawant further asked people to take care of the elderly at home as they do not move out. “We saw that in the first death case, as he was bed-ridden for four years and he got infected through a family member. Therefore I urge people to be extra cautious,” he stated, adding that people must follow social distancing and wear masks.

Asked about the South Goa BJP MLA who tested positive for COVID-19, Sawant said that he is stable and asymptomatic.

On his meeting with the MLA last week, the chief minister said it was eight days ago and proper social distancing was maintained.

Earlier, he said, “Clafasio (Dias) testing positive was a proof that the MLA was moving around to get people’s work done. All who came in contact with him are being tested.”
