Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has urged panchayats and municipalities across Goa to take proactive measures in tackling waterlogging and pothole problems within their areas, stressing the need for timely action to prevent accidents and protect public safety. Speaking after an online session on Disaster Management with local bodies and departmental officials on Saturday, Sawant emphasized the vital role of grassroots governance in effective disaster preparedness and urban management.
He called on local bodies to either resolve waterlogging issues themselves or immediately inform the Public Works Department (PWD) for necessary repairs. Highlighting the heightened risks during the monsoon season, Sawant said, “Panchayats and municipalities must not wait for problems to escalate. If they cannot address waterlogging or potholes directly, they should promptly notify the PWD so timely repairs can prevent accidents.”
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of quick reporting of potholes, warning that neglected road damage can cause serious mishaps. His remarks form part of a wider effort to enhance local disaster management capabilities and improve coordination between government departments and local self-governments.
Sawant’s engagement with local officials reinforces the government’s commitment to efficiently addressing basic infrastructure issues, ensuring citizen safety, and minimizing disruptions during adverse weather conditions.
